Plans

Start free. Move to paid when the work needs more.

Free gives you local writing and simple export without an account. Pro adds more room for long documents, active review, stronger history, and polished DOCX/PDF export. Teams gives groups Pro access under one subscription.

Free

Best for starting a draft, trying Compose, or working on lighter documents.

Use Free when you want the core app without payment or an account. You can write locally, save .compose files, export simple formats, keep a small set of notes and sources, and recover recent changes.

Pro

Best for finishing long documents that need more sources, review, history and polished export.

Use Pro when a document becomes too important for the Free limits. Pro gives one person more space for supporting material, stronger recovery, active review tools, and DOCX/PDF export for submission, delivery or archive.

Teams

Best for giving a group Pro features under one annual subscription.

Use Teams when several people need paid Compose access and one owner should manage seats and billing. Each active paid seat gets Pro features. Teams manages access and payment. It does not turn saved .compose files into shared cloud documents.

Billing and plan questions

Paid plans are managed from Account in Compose. Checkout shows the current price, taxes, renewal terms and cancellation details before you pay.

Do I need an account?

No for Free. You can open Compose and start writing. You need an account for Pro, Teams, billing, support and team administration because the app needs to know who owns the subscription.

Can I stay on Free?

Yes. Free remains available within its limits. Use it for starting, testing and lighter documents. Upgrade only when the work needs features or capacity that Free does not include.

Are paid plans monthly or annual?

Paid plans are annual at launch. Checkout shows the renewal terms before you pay.

Is there a free trial?

No. Free is the trial-friendly way to test the core writing experience before choosing a paid plan.

When should I upgrade to Pro?

Upgrade to Pro when the document needs DOCX or PDF export, active review, more notes, more sources, stronger version history, milestones or support.

When should I choose Teams instead of Pro?

Choose Teams when more than one person needs paid access and one owner should manage the subscription. Teams adds seats, roles, invites, Team Spaces and shared billing.

How do I start Pro?

Open Compose, go to Account, and choose Start Pro. After checkout, return to Compose with the same email so the app can refresh your paid access.

How do I start Teams?

Open Compose, go to Account, and choose Start Teams. Choose a team name and seat quantity before checkout. The person who starts the plan becomes the owner.

What is a seat?

A seat is paid access for one active team member. If five people need Pro-level features through the team, the team needs five seats.

What is a Team Space?

A Team Space organises people around work, such as a project, class, client, department or writing group. It is not a cloud drive or shared document folder.

What happens after checkout?

Compose returns you to the app and refreshes your account. If paid access does not appear immediately, use Refresh account or sign in again with the same email you used at checkout.

What happens if I upgrade later?

Plan changes and upgrades are handled through Stripe. When an upgrade changes the paid subscription before renewal, Stripe applies the relevant prorated adjustment at checkout or in billing.

What happens if I cancel?

Cancellation stops the next renewal. Paid access continues until the end of the billing period you have already paid for.

Can I get a refund?

If you are unhappy with your first paid purchase, contact support within 30 days. Refunds for renewals or other cases are handled as described in the Terms and as required by law.

Where do I manage my subscription?

Use Manage billing in Account. Pro subscribers manage their own subscription. Teams owners manage the team subscription, including payment methods, invoices, subscription changes, cancellation and payment recovery.

What happens to my documents if I change plan or cancel?

Your saved files remain yours. Compose is local-first. Plans control paid capabilities, not ownership of your writing. Save important work as a .compose file before clearing browser data, resetting a profile, or moving to a new device.

What happens if a payment needs attention?

The Account area shows a billing action when payment recovery is needed. Paid features depend on the active state of the Pro or Teams subscription. Resolve the billing issue to restore the paid access tied to that plan.
